After reading like a dozen editorials about the Sgt Crowley-Professor Gates-President OBama kerfuffle, I haven’t found one yet that has found  the real problem.

Flash anger.

It is not a white, black, polka dot, cop, Haarvaaad professor issue.  A guy comes home after a longass trip–point your finger between your feet now, from down-there, China–probably spent about twenty hours in a cramped airline seat with no leg room talking to some schmuck from Cleveland.   Anyway, he gets home, and the FRICKING door is jammed up again.  CABBIE, CABBIE! Can you help me?  After some door shoulder presses it bursts open.  Me, I am kicking small animals by now.  But I’m home. Safe, sound, where’s the shower?

And then a cop comes banging on my jammed up door, never mind the doorbell.  Flash anger. You have been there, maybe even with someone you LOVED. Understandable.

Then the cop.  He sounds like a normal, if not above normal, cop.  But I know there are probably two phrases that can spin up any cop;  1. “What’s your badge number, Mother&^*&#((#” and 2.  “Do you know who I am?’   After a day of getting pissed on by a homeless guy, breaking up yet another family fight and doing, like, five hours of paperwork, you know what happened.  Flash anger. Been there, you too? Of course.

I am thinking there are but two “teachable” moments in the beer summit today.

1.  Control your temper

2. And for President Obama, stay out of stuff like this. We want you to know ’stuff’ but we don’t want you working every problem, yourself. No CEO does that, why should you?

So, mostly to illustrate that last point, how a President or CEO needs to pick his battles, or he will be given every future issue no matter how mundane because it is obvious to all of us that he wants to be involved, I made the following Gruzzle.  Little leaguers leaving the base before the pitch is a HUGE problem, doncha know?

Anyway, the folks at FASTCOMPANY loved the idea, but asked me to make it ‘edgier.’  So, i did, and that one will be on FastCompany.com sometime today, but before the Beer Summit.

I thought it was something that a mainstream pub like FC wanted something ‘edgier.’  My box just got bigger.
