Figuring out who to follow on Twitter is a big step to your continued use of this new media. The more interesting the people you follow, the more interesting their tweets, and the more you learn from them. It’s hard to continue to upgrade your list. Here is a technique I have found that helps. Here are seven groups of twitterers that are particularly good: Top HR People who twitter about workplace issues; Top Non Fiction Authors who have written books and have more to say; Executive and Life Coaches who provide insights and tips for all of us who want to improve and ‘get ahead;’ a list of Top celebrities and Kewl people just because we should have fun using twitter, too; Top Venture Capitalists because a lot of people who read this blog are all about starting new companies; Top software developers because the world is being run by these folks and it is always good to overhear their conversations; and last but not least, the Top interactive agencies who have found new ways to use twitter and other social media in their own businesses.
I have not taken the time to describe each and every person below. What I have done is made it simple for you to follow by creating this simple copy and paste list of the top twitters’ twitter names. Just copy and paste each list into www.ninjafollow.com and you will be following them. Some will follow you back and, of course, over time, if you don’t like their tweets, you can always un-follow them. Please add to the list if I missed you, and I am sorry for the oversight.

Great idea GL – I’m following a bunch of the folks above, but found plenty of new ones to follow too.
I just wish @careerealism had made the list!
Thanks for publishing a great and useful list! I have resisted using any automated following apps, but will likely use ninjafollow to fill in the blanks of who I am not already following from these lists. Like J.T., also wish @crisjobcoach had made your list.
This is so interesting it will take me a while to get through them. I have had plenty of them already on my list, but like the new ones too! If you had a category for children’s books, @Kakief would be a good one to follow.
She writes the award winning Bur Bur and Friends series
Thanks for a thoughtful list of people to follow, GL, and I agree with folks comments here.Have you considered leaving your list open to suggestions that others add – as an open document with team relevance. Why so?
In addition to your listed names, I personally like to remain open to amazing people and their insights as well as ideas that differ from your categories here.
Who you follow depends on one’s reason to Twitter and what is the goal of interactions. Numbers, ranks, and ads for instance remain unimportant to me, and I do not twitter for any of the above. That changes who I follow.
More valuable to me, the marketplace of brilliant ideas and renewal possibilities trumps all other reasons to Twitter. My work with the brain also suggests the value of reading people who differ, who engage, who support others more than seek support and other ideals. That differs for all – and it’s why open and engaging and curiosity building lists work best for me.
While I would not copy and paste any list of folks to follow – I do enjoy the interesting and diverse perspectives gained from many of the people you include – and many not here – to inspire my own busy days. Just another take on a good idea you raised:-) Thanks:-)
YEs, Ellen, you are right…just add whoever you want here and I will get into the main group. I agree with your points.
Thanks for the terrific lists!
How ’bout adding a Do Good list? Here’s a terrific start by @ajlovesya Get Help on Volunteering from these Awesome Groups on Twitter. http://ow.ly/gvvl
