Much has been written about the need for us all to be balanced in our lives, neither too cold or too hot, as Goldilocks famously said. I have always believed that one should try to do well in every part of your life: physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, financially.
Since it is especially hard these days to keep life’s balance as top of mind, I thought you would appreciate seeing a demonstration of the actual power of real balance at work, in nature.

I loved this piece. One of the things it made me think was that it isn’t just a matter of avoiding cold and hot, it’s a matter of balancing them. He doesn’t just have one kind of “standard” rock that he balances, he takes all kinds and puts them together in such a way that they work together.
It reminds me of this marvelous choir that my daughter left this last year. It isn’t a matter of everyone singing the proper, middle note. It is a matter of everyone singing his or her part precisely and fully so that they blend into this marvelous harmony.
Going for the blend is much healthier in diet, interests and activity than narrowing ones perspective. Kind of like the genetic blend in a mutt makes it more healthy and stable often than a purebred.
Good stuff, GL.
Great post during these times —the waves sure have taken their toll these last few days—
After all–tides (401k) rise and tides (sales) fall—and we are left standing—if not—try again———-or get off the beach!!—-lol
Thanks for the calm—and the possibilities—–
Thanks for this refreshing reminder of nature’s intelligence and ours, GL!
I’ve seen this man’s work in British Columbia often and it’s often closely related to the Inuit’s Inukshuks that I also observed when I lived and worked two years in the high arctic.
I’m curious though: Why did you select balance as the theme here, as opposed to creativity – or art forms, for instance? What sparked a notion of balance in the YouTube, as you saw it? Thoughts?
Thanks all. Ellen, good question…balance came immediately to mind. I guess to me the problem appeared to be one purely of balance and even though it is a new form of art perhaps, and is certainly creative…I took it as a demonstration that balance in all things is attainable, but only if you look for it and know where to tap.
Great post and vid. The premise of the vid is so simple yet extremely profound.
Sometimes, we become too focused on one facet of our lives (work more often than not) we get burned too quickly. Balance in our lives is really important.
