Thanks Aussie, my intention was not actually to provide a condensed version of American history…the long version is much more interesting, not unlike the history of your own country. I was trying to make a point that July 1st was actually THE day. And how John Adams saved the day, in many minds. Thanks for stopping by.

Thanks Dave, I appreciate it. Steven, of course, you are right, please forgive the lack of exactness. On July 4th, only John Hancock, and Charles Thomson, affixed their signatures, but the event was done. July 4th, by the way, unlike the 1st, was a nice, cool day…a breath of fresh air, perhaps.

I would certainly echo the comments above, and continue to admire your ability to “speak” with the written word.

I also would suggest that for those of your readers who did not have the opportunity to watch the PBS series on John Adams that they not only should, but should have thier kids watch it too.

Great summary of the birth of our nation, GL, except that there was actually no signing ceremony. The Declaration of Independence was agreed upon and the signatures were added over the course of months.
