I used to find it creepy if they tried to be nice to me, clearly they were heeding advice like this, but I always felt “don’t they KNOW how many people we see? We don’t care if you get the job!”

Oh I used to work Reception for a company that did a lot of recruiting. If someone had sent me a follow up note from an interview, I would think they were a brown-noser freak, and recommend we not hire them. LOL

Having prepped a daughter for the job circuit following college, I began to think:

“Uh, why aren’t colleges doing the Full Monty on interview preparation?”

From a purely selfish point of view, it could only enhance their stature to say nothing of giving their grads an actual, marketable set of behaviors:-)

Hello…I really debated on this one because I absolutely believe the advice given by most career experts is over the top bad and condescending. It hurts people when they are most vulnerable. This is really aimed at recent college graduates who need a class on the basics. My subtle hints from time to time have not made it through, I am afraid.
Ellen I think your role playing idea sounds great…something I hope many of the workforce centers do with the people who depend upon them for help.
I have interviewed a lot of people who have interviewed poorly. Some people just need to prepare more, perhaps. Some are poor test takers, ie, choke in pressure filled situations.

Cool post GL — this is funny but filled with the goods! Sometimes I find that it is good to have people practice on one another, video their role play interviews – and tell one another why they’d get or not get a job — based on checklists such as the great guide you posted here! Do you agree?

Other than that GL – I love your opening line for the interviewees opening hook …”Listen the hell up!” Not that would get an interviewers ear (or his fist) and would make great drama or a hook to the jaw.

BTW – Have you ever hired a person who interviewed poorly, GL? Thoughts?
