I lament about those days as well when the woman or man behind the counter really knew their stuff, looked you in the eye, smiled, listened and spoke English.

But can we really blame WalMart for the crushing of small town America? We all have the power of choice and when ba-zillions of Americans chose to leave their little shops on Main Street for the sucking vortex of big box stores with the cheap Chinese pricing and crapola, we--not WalMart--killed small, personable shops and shopkeepers. All for the sake of the almighty buck. Which, by the way, we have less of with diminishing earning power than days of yore.

We didn't choose to say, thanks, but no thanks to that big box house of crapola that opened on the outskirts of town and instead stay loyal to the small independents.

We are a greedy lot and not very loyal are we? Otherwise we'd still have the joy and the pleasure of having a nice visit with that woman or man behind the counter who remembers our parents, asks about our kids and pulls out that special item they'd been saving just for us.

My fellow Americans are responsible for the end of good quality products and superior service in this country, not Sam. We just didn't say "NO" to Sam.

You get what you pay for.

if you need a cool designer chair here is the place to start: http://www.architonic.com/mus/4630001/1

by the way, a chair is considered one of the toughest things to design, becuase it has been done so many ways and has so many constraints for a simple function and form.

Sorry there is a reason my site is called "designing better futures", I am actually pretty savage when it comes to the subject...don't know why, just am.
