I was re-reading the Albert Schweitzer quote and thought how important, again, it is to find someone in your life that can motivate you when you most need it. It might be your parents or a favorite uncle who always makes you feel better about yourself.

I believe we all need unconditional support, love, encouragement….and someone to set ever-increasing expectations. Expectations not in a job or monetary sense, but more in a sense of fulfilling your own dreams, however deeply buried, or in simply living up to your own potential. Sometimes as parents, we expect too much out of our kids…driving them too hard, maybe even with ‘our’ goals for them in mind, not them. And you kids—well, um, if you just listen more……J/K.
The older you get, you will find, that this support, unconditional support, is harder and harder to find. Treasure it if you are getting it.

What a poignant entry…
When you find that unconditional support as an older codger – like us – isn’t it sweet? And it can come from the most unexpected sources, sources sometimes long forgotten, sometimes never known.
This is so true–I reciently spent time with both my 76 year old mother, and my soon to be 96 year old grandmother. Both of these ladies knew about MOST of the bad things I have ever done—and still love me no mater what.
I think one thing to remember is that even when these people are past–you will always know it is now our responsibility to pay it forward.
This seems to be easy to do with our kids—how about we try it with someone who really needs it………
excellent point Mike…really a good one. I think it is hard to do for others…way hard.

As a mater of fact I did–and she said she loves you no mater what—not sure what she meant by that…..(just kidding)
