This poor girl. Watch and listen to it, if you haven’t done so by now. You might laugh a little at her even, ok. Most of us might laugh at her…but we are thinking–wow, am I glad it wasn’t me up there.
“I personally believe that US Americans are unable to do so because some people out there in our nation don’t have maps,” she said tentatively.
This must be one of Youtube’s most watched videos since the weekend. Unluckily for Lauren Caitlin Upton, her most embarrassing moment was caught on camera for the entire world to see. Sometimes the internet really sucks.
Earlier today, she was on the TODAY SHOW not so much to explain herself, but to let all of us see the real ‘HER.’ She wasn’t defensive, and she didn’t say she was on drugs (see Michael Richards), she just took it all in good humor like the nice young woman that she is. She showed grace and elegance.
It reminded me that when you do something you wish you hadn’t—first, own it. Don’t try to offload it on to someone else or to some other nefarious cause. Next, show some good humor. Laughing at oneself is normal and it sure gets people on your side fast. Lastly, correct the mistake. She did so today. Her do-over answer was not Condi Rice-brilliant, but it was good enough.
Some of our more experienced politicians and screwed up celebrities could learn a little from the teenager who everyone is laughing at today.

Excellent advice! And I can truly say: “Been there, done that!”
I love this quote:
“Never be afraid to laugh at yourself, after all, you could be missing out on the joke of the century.” – Dame Edna Everage
Thanks Robert…too funny, or I must be getting ADD…i read this name at first as Damn Edna Average. I hope Lauren has a better week this week, don’t you?
