If you want to get ahead, learn how to communicate in clear, direct and crisp language. I have a couple of friends who own their own companies and after we are together with them, my wife and I always compare notes and try to figure out what the hell it is they actually do.
I used to think it was my own lack of attention–I do tend to have A-D-D, half-zeimer moments—but now I am beginning to realize that it might not be completely my fault.
This is another way of saying that your [tag]personal elevator pitch]/tag] is so important. You should work on how you say what it is you do, or want to do. Write it out, and then throw it away…like ten times. Only re-writing something ten times…no cheating…do you have a chance to make it crisp enough.
I was telling Toby about this…and he directed me to a website, where a company was being spotlighted, as an advertiser. He said the company’s business description…as a spotlight advertiser, no less…was a perfect example. Here it is….any ideas what the hell they actually do?
Adaptive Avenue is first to market with a third-party Web presentation service. Adaptive Avenue is a “content driver” that serves Web content in database-driven rotational format with more flexibility and less overhead than other dynamic methods. Its patented capabilities achieve user activity rates of 4x – 5x relative to conventional formats.

Hey GL – It’s easy – I think this is what they were really saying here.
“We swung over to a third guy who’s making it, and then presented the swing steps somehow online. Then we jumped into a content driver and became bored, driven and rotated in his format. There’s no overhead cause there’s no money – so dynamite these methods. It only got patented because 4 or 5 conventional relatives even survived it.â€
Hope your dinner was a good one!
