EllenEllenEllen---You do always challenge me. Ok, here's my short answer: yes. And my long one: definitely. (I saw that recently and just had to use it.)

I do believe that firms, being people after all, do recognize and reward according to what folks give...in almost all cases. In my own company, we have over 30-some young sales reps. I tend to like the reps who do the best.

I am not sure who first said this: To the degree you give others what they want, they will give you what you want. I have always thought this was a pretty deep statment which people do tend to misunderstand. How many times have we all said things like "I will start trusting my kids more when they start doing better in school." Or, "I will treat my wife better when she starts showing me some affection."

The "law" doesn't work that way. First, you have to give them what they want before you get what you want. It sure isn't easy, because it implies you know what they want, and that you know how to give it to them.

My direct experience with companies is that they absolutely give people exactly what people give to them. It is a direct coorelation.

GL, do you really sense that firms recognize and reward according to what folks give? Has that been your experience - or have you seen it in action? Thoughts?
