Alison Pitman runs a voice over business out of Bristol, England called relocomo.  She does work for several American clients.

Tell us a little about yourself?  Where do you live?  Where did you grow up?  Tell us a little about your place where you grew up, your family, school?

I live in the City of Bristol which is in the southwest of England,UK. I grew up about 15miles away from where I now live in a market town called Thornbury.  My mum and dad still live in Thornbury & my sister, Nicky, lives in Bristol not far from me.  I live with my partner, Perry, and with our baby girl, Inge, and our two cats, Pippin and Merry.

How did you start working in international business?

I started working for international clients a couple of years ago when I started my voiceover business.  I have clients all over Europe & in US and Canada.

Do you work with a lot of Americans now?

The majority of my clients are based in the United States.

How would you characterize the working relationships?

I love working for my American clients – I generally find them really enthusiastic, straight-forward, very complimentary , just a real pleasure to work with.  I always get such good feedback from my American clients which really does make life so much nicer.  Americans, in my experience are very good at business – they know what they want and they communicate it well, they pay on time and sometimes even tip!

When you hear that Americans are concerned that we are shipping jobs overseas, what is your response?

This worry is not exclusive to Americans.  The UK workers have for a long time worried about work going overseas.  About five years ago, British workers were concerned that all call centres were being re located overseas.  Many of them did, but recently there has been a backlash and now more businesses promote themselves as having UK call centres, so it has come full circle.

What is your opinion of America and Americans?  Have you visited here?

Unfortunately,I’ve never visited the States but do intend to do so in the future.  I think Americans are very polite, hardworking and a joy to work with.

Is there anything you would like to say to the average American worker?

Don’t worry.

Anything else you would like to say?

Yes, my home is for sale…
