Since I recommended sales as a good first job and said to do it for the training, many have asked how to tell if the sales manager has it together, and can carry it too. Two simple questions by you will help find out.
Ask him what sales books he likes. And then ask him “why?” Most sales “How to-” books are written by authors who are trainers, not sales managers or performers.
Ask him this question: “What is the only reason why people buy?” Correct answer: when they are uncomfortable in their current situation. (slight variations, ok)
This will give you a good start on finding the right place.
