More than once, I have heard bright twentysomeings say something like “I am just not as smart as I should be. I feel so inadequate.” This is a sure sign of insecurity, perhaps.Â
I have a 15% rule—which basically goes like this:  No one is more or less than 15% smarter or dumber than anyone else. (I know this is a generalization and there are exceptions to every rule!)
But it pretty much holds true in most companies, no one is head and shoulders over you in terms of pure IQ.
Like everything, it is what you choose to do with yours that matters most.Â

What great advice here. It’s also true that most of use less than 5% of our brains and that IQ is no longer considered fixed. So confidence is the ingredient needed, I agree with you, to motivate folks to keep slugging and getting smarter. Thanks for the 15% rule too. Lots of food for thought.

Thanks Ellen. If the 5% number is true, why can’t I find my car keys more easily? My next invention will be a velcro suit…that way, I can simply attach things I need to my clothes.
