I am constantly surprised at how many younger people believe that there is someone watching out for them and their careers. Maybe it is because of their “helicopter parents” who hover around, always watching and advising their children. Some of these parents are even attending college classes now with their children!!

Maybe we all have a secret desire to win the lottery. We believe that someday, somewhere, someone is going to walk up to us and say, “you are so naturally charismatic that I am going to select you for this Next Big Thing.”

We tend to make our own breaks. And, work and opportunities naturally flow to those who demonstrate that they can handle it. It is like a real world extra credit process. There are always students-people who do the basic amount to get by, who are too cool to work hard, do the extra one thing, stay a bit later. Those who work for the extra credits, get extra—eventually.

Go for it.
