Candidates Perspective – Automated Response
Applicant tracking systems (ATS) have a vast number of growing features. It is certainly easy enough to focus on the ones that provide the most benefit to general users, however, it is important to keep in mind what features also benefit candidates. After all, they are users too.
One of the best features from a candidate perspective is the automated response. I remember when I used to send out resumes by snail mail before the general use of the Internet and ATSs. I found it frustrating to have to wait to receive confirmation on whether or not anybody had received or reviewed it. Today, an ATS can send out an email immediately just as a candidate finishes applying. At that point, they probably know that no one has actually read the resume, but at least they know it is in the system. Certain ATSs go a step further and offer the ability to send out responses as a candidate is moved through the pipeline / hiring process. This does include the “dream-crusher” response when the candidate is no longer in consideration for the position.
Another great aspect of automated responses is the ability to customize the response to match candidate information, company branding and specific messaging. When everything is brought together, candidates will have a better first experience with a company.
