I think one of the best blogs out there is Cheezhead.com. In today’s posts, Taleo Creating ‘Web Constipation’ for Candidates?, Vanessa Dennis shares information about a new Taleo problem. Apparetly, Taleo doesn’t play friendly with some of the job board aggrigators out there. Be sure to check it out!

In the last several months, there have been a huge number of layoffs. Lots of very talented, experienced, and motivated folks have unfortunately been affected. Earlier this week, I read an article written by GL Hoffman on US News entitled When HR is Bad PR. The article highlights the efforts that should be made to reply to candidates. The article made think - “How many more resumes are recruiters and HR professionals receiving because of the recent layoffs?”
This is where I would like some participation and comments from you. How many more resumes have you noticed? I’m just looking for a general sense and not an accurate percentage or count…though it is great if you know this number and are willing to share. However, sticking with the general sense, I’m just looking for something like “a bunch more” or “about the same.” It would also be nice to know perhaps your location and industry. Submitting anonymously is certainly welcome.
Answering the resume question above should be very easy for anyone with an applicant tracking system (ATS). If you currently don’t have an ATS, now would be a terrific time to consider implementing a solution to organize additional candidates while quickly identify the strongest ones. I would be happy to discuss it with you more if you are interested in learning. In fact, I will be hosting a webinar next Wednesday (12.17.2008) at 1:00PM CST for anyone interested in learning the basics of an ATS. Space is limited, but feel free to contact me if you would like to attend.
Thank you in advance for anyone that shares information.

I’ve been thinking about writing a buy versus build post for sometime
about applicant tracking systems. However, Kenneth Peck has written a
great post about the subject. Make sure to read his article: Recruiting Software - Rolling Your Own.

Today while going through my RSS feeds, I found a post which was quite unexpected. LinkUp, a great site for job seekers and part of JobDig, was highlighted as a “KillerStartup.” Also, if you didn’t get enough of voting this month, here is you opportunity to try again. The folks at JobDig would greatly appreciate your vote if you like what you see!

It’s Friday afternoon, and you just posted a position with your applicant tracking system (ATS). The position has been placed on your website, job boards and the other usual sources. When you come to work on Monday, you realize that you have had over 200 candidates apply for the position.
Sound familiar? Well it doesn’t necessary need to be a Friday, but many companies experience this type of high candidate volume for certain positions. Even with an applicant tracking system, this could be a quite the chord to review all the information and resumes. This is where candidate and position matching features can help save the day…or at least some very busy work.
The candidate and position matching feature available in certain ATSs serve users “pre-qualified” candidates to help ease the burden of reading resumes one-by-one. The ATS can identify either keywords or the skill sets required for the position then run a search against a resume as it is submitted. If there is a match, the ATS can send a notification such as an email to the recruiter/HR professional.
For this weeks tip, try testing the accuracy of your ATS’s matching system. Apply with a resume that you created as a “perfect match” and see how it ranks or if the ATS identified it as a match. Then try working your way down to the George Costanza resume. Be sure to generate a bogus position so you don’t skew performance in your reports.

I ran across a listing of applicant tracking system (ATS) vendors today when I was reading the Recruiting Nevada blog. I was a bit disappointed to see that JobDig Tracker didn’t make the list, so I created my own list. Some are listed by product name while others by company name. I encourage everyone to comment if I have missed some.

I’m still a greenhorn when it comes to LinkedIn. I have a bit of work to do in order to get my profile up to 100%. Take a peek: Jake Stupak. However, I have found the latest applications on LinkedIn great! For those that might not have had an opportunity to learn about them yet, I would suggest reading Facebook in a Suit: LinkedIn Launches Applications Platform. I’ve already added my blog to my profile using their new WordPress app, and it was super easy…though pretty much anybody could add anyone’s blog to their profile.

You have probably noticed in the last few years that many applicant tracking systems (ATS) have shifted to a “new” web-based model. For those that might not know, this model is referred to as Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). I estimate that nearly 95% of all ATSs are designed with the SaaS model. While the idea is nothing new, I’ve been noticing some conflicting perspectives on the future of this model.
Harry Debes, CEO of Lawson Software, made a prediction that SaaS will collapse within the next two years in an article which was cleverly entitled SaaS Market will ‘Collapse’ in Two Years. However, I believe this statement is too bold. Like the web-based technologies before, I believe SaaS is providing the next true foundation for computing. This is just my humble opinion, but I am not along. Google and Microsoft are also betting on SaaS.
Google is offering a great set of applications that you can access through their Documents lineup. The applications are great, and not just because they are free. I started using Google’s Documents because I didn’t like having to send multiple copies back and forth to other folks. I can now share all of the documents and allow specific permissions per user. I guess I should get to the point. All of this is delivered via SaaS, and for everyone that might not have heard…Google is doing okay.
More recently, Microsoft has announced their new cloud computing with Windows Azure. This basically reflects on the SaaS model, yet they refer to it as OS(or Platform)-as-a-Service. However, this is more proof that SaaS foundation will be around for more that two years as predicted by Debes. Microsoft intends to have Azure closer to a production release in 2010. If you would like a simple overview of Azure, I recommend watching Ozzie Paints Windows Azure.
Again, I don’t personally believe SaaS is going to collapse in two years, yet I know that it isn’t that last in a long line of web-based platforms for solution delivery. However, I do believe that it is shifting the approach many companies take when considering solutions.

Anyone that has recently been looking for an applicant tracking system (ATS) has more than likely discovered the large number of solutions and vendors out there. While I remain loyal to JobDig Tracker, I found that TalentManagementTech offers a medium for HR professionals and recruiters to browse around different ATS solution information that is provided directly from vendors. In addition, you can find the latest information from sources, including vendors and users, such as press releases, blogs and other formats of documentation.
I feel it is important to point out that TalentManagementTech is much more than just ATS information. The site offers information based on assessments, background checks, consulting, employee training/education, HR Management Systems, Job Boards/Referral Networks, Payroll, etc and this is just the very start. The information and quality will continue to grow as more members join (free) and participant in the community.
“Innovations in the talent management area are happening at hyper speed. Yet most HR professionals and recruiters never hear about these advancements because the entrenched vendors drown out the innovation with noisy advertising campaigns with entrenched media channels. Well, change is in the air with the launch of TalentManagementTech.com” explained RD Whitney, who is the Founder of TalentManagementTech. “We are turning the bullhorn over to the innovators in a user moderated community. The talent management process will benefit from this new direct channel, and the effect will be higher productivity and innovation for all involved.”
The following are my obvious favorite links on TalentManagementTech:

A couple weeks ago I wrote about CareerBuilder’s 2008 Applicant Tracking Guide being “released” at the 11th annual HR Technology Conference. I recently found the guide available through Personfied which is a CareerBuilder company. The guide is offered at $350. While I haven’t had an opportunity to read this guide, I would wager it is a strong reflection of other ATS guides I have read.
If you have already reviewed the guide, I would be interested to hear you thoughts.
