I stopped watching CNBC about 4 or 5 months ago when I could no longer handle anything they aired. Between the screaming octo-panels, the worthless guests (with the rare exceptions being David Darst, Byron Wien, and Bob Hormats – all 3 of whom are brilliant), the gibberish analysis, the amateurish reporting, and the complete disregard of (or absolute obliviousness to) the financial oligarchy that has overrun Washington for decades, not to mention the economic collapse itself, I switched to Bloomberg during the day, turned the volume down, and bought an internet-enabled Tivoli radio (there is no decent classical music in Minneapolis thanks to MPR’s purchase and reformatting of WCAL a few years ago).
It was with some delight then that I watched Jon Stewart rip the buffoon that is Jim Cramer to shreds on The Daily Show. (I wish someone would do the same to Dennis Kneale and Rick Santelli). But while that humiliation was satisfying, the complete meltdown of Jeff Macke on the air this week is beyond explanation.
If CNBC was a farm animal, someone would take it behind the shed and shoot it.
(Thanks Gunnar for the clip).
