I had the pleasure of hearing a great presentation earlier this Summer by a well-known demographer. Through the course of the hour-long lecture, there were some fascintaing facts that I was somewhat surprised by…
• 3 billion people share 1% of the world’s wealth
• The wealthiest 10% of the world’s people own 85% of the world’s assets
• The richest 1% of people own 33% of the world’s assets
• The U.S. is #1 (for developed nations) in youth poverty with 22% of the nation’s children living in poverty
• The U.S. is #11 for developed nation in high school graduation rates
• 40 million people in the U.S. move every year
• 33% of the U.S. population is comprised of children under the age of 5, and 45% of those are non-white
