I signed up for Twitter on Monday (it’s been on my list of to-do’s for a few months but Jason Alba finally convinced me that I needed to take the plunge) and have been trying all week to get comfortable integrating it into my routine (it’s not yet and maybe won’t be for some time, but it is interesting).
Anyway, there was an article in the Wall Street Journal that I wanted to highlight and post a link to on Twitter. When I went onto the site to find it by entering the EXACT title of the article, nothing happened. No search results, no articles, no stories about the two companies featured in the piece. Nothing. I had to go to Google, type in the story title, and click on the first search result to get to the story on wsj.com. The search box/button on wsj.com appears to be completely busted. I’ve had the exact same experience on numerous occasions on the New York Times site. Typing in the exact story title oftentimes does not generate the story anywhere in the search results. Very frustrating. The search functionality on too many daily newspaper sites, even the largest ones, is sorely lacking . If they are going to compete online, they need to have among the best, if not THE best, search capabilities available on the web today.
If you want to see the story I eventually found, follow me on Twitter.
